Aerial Courses Instructor (level 3 PAT – AÉQ certification)

Prerequisites:
  • Prerequisite training: PAT Rescuer (level 2-PAT)
  • Minimum age: 21 years old
  • The candidate must perfectly master all technical and teaching skills of levels 1 and 2 (PAT operator, patroller and rescuer).
  • The candidate must have a minimum of three consecutive years of field experience as a PAT rescuer (provide a curriculum vitae).

At the time of registration, the participant must submit an application file for evaluation. The file must contain:

  • 3 ”PAT” rescue technique demonstration videos he uses frequently
  • A letter explaining why he wishes to follow his trainer training and for which company he intends to work to provide training (PAT and/or T).
  • Provide a resume indicating three consecutive years of field experience as a PAT rescuer

Process for obtaining the trainer level (level 3-PAT):

  • Three-day training: Two days (16 hours) of technical rescue upgrading (evaluation of the 6 rescue maneuvers). One day of training (8 hours) on teaching, safety management and evaluation.
  • Stage 1: Attend complete PAT lifeguard training (16 hours) and teach a minimum of 3 capsules during the training supervised by the trainer.
  • Stage 2: Provide complete training (16 hours) at PAT rescuer level, supervised and evaluated by an evaluator.

Level 3 PAT trainer training allows the candidate to:

  • The trainer is able to teach a candidate at levels 1 and 2 (PAT and T), direct them and evaluate their theoretical and technical knowledge.
  • At the end of his training and internships, the trainer must achieve the following objectives:
  • Be able to supervise and manage a group of learners during practical and theoretical exercises;
  • Be able to evaluate and mitigate the risks inherent in practicing technical exercises in aerial or zip line courses;
  • Be able to assess the level of teaching as well as the technical skills of learners;
  • Master ALL personal protective equipment (PPE) used as well as their methods of proper use in the context of their duties;
  • Master the making and use of ALL knots taught;
  • Master ALL movement and positioning techniques;
  • Master ALL notions of technical assistance to participants;
  • Master ALL the concepts of evacuating a participant.

Validity: 1 year

Requalification:

Before December 20 of each year:

  • The trainer must insert in his PAT-AEQ file the list of training courses that he has supervised during the year.
  • No later than January 31, AEQ will renew their training certificate for one year or send them a letter explaining the reasons for non-renewal and the procedure to follow to renew their training certificate.
  • Carry out at least one training per year: after two seasons without having given training, the trainer will automatically lose his training certificate and he will have to follow the trainer training again. The number of internships to be completed will be determined by the evaluator after the final evaluation of the training.
  • Participate in the trainers’ meeting organized at the beginning of the year by AEQ and the evaluators: obligatory at the beginning of the year (March-April) and optional at the end of the year (September-October). In the case of an unmotivated and unannounced absence, AEQ will determine the measures to take to transmit the information and could go so far as to withdraw the training certificate. The annual meeting can take place by videoconference or in person.
  • Continuous assessment, no final exam.
