Amongst the series of the 14 summit above 8000m in the world, Manaslu is the 8th. It is located in Nepal at 120km west of Katmandu and dominate the massif of Gurkha. It’s name been change to Manaslu, from the word ‘Manasa’ in the sanskrit language that could be translate by ‘mountain of spirit’. Manaslu is compose of many high ridges and glaciated valley that culminate with an impressive summit above all the surrounding area and is visible from really far away.

Gyalzen Norbu and T. Imanishi (Japanese expedition) realized the first ascent of the mountain in 1956. Since then, 672 persons did climb the summit. A controversy been in the news in the last few years about many summit claim that would have been made by a ‘false summit’. The real summit top out on a rock prominence. Most of the team stop before that really steep rock section on a false summit of snow. This mountain is a great choice to start the series of 8000m because its technical level is not hard compare to other 8000m mountains like Makalu or Annapurna.

Our vision is to try the ascent without the use of extra oxygen. However, we gonna have this support if some member of the team need it to continue the expedition.

We are gonna spend the nights in Katmandu in 3 or stars hotel depending on disposability. We are going to be in lodge for the approach trek. From basecamp we are going to be sleeping in tents for the rest of the expedition.

We organize every aspect of the basecamp, tents, kitchen equipment, tables, chairs, communication and everything else! You only have to install your personal equipment. The only equipment you have to provide for yourself is a sleeping bag and sleeping pad (for altitude camps) because our local agency provides it for the basecamp along all you need to sleep well.

At basecamp, we have a system to recharge electronic device. We also have lights and a heater to warm up the kitchen tent!

From Katmandu, we gonna take a private helicopter flight to Sauma to avoid the 7 days trek in low altitude. This way we can spend more time in higher altitude to acclimate better. You are responsible of your transport to Katmandu. Since we have a lot of equipment to carry from Quebec, we are going to separate it amongst the participants and guides before leaving.

During our stay in Katmandu, we are going to eat in restaurants (not included). On the mountains, we will eat the very good meals that our cook makes for us. On the ascent, we will start to eat lyophilized food from ‘Col Camp’. You only have have to think about your own personnel favorite food : chocolate, candy, energy bar, powergel, etc.

Climbing equipment

We organize every group equipment; ropes, rock and snow protections, first aid kit, communications and other. You only have to provide personnel climbing equipment. A list will be provided.
